The magic of sourdough

So much of the Farmers Market happens behind the scenes. All through the week there are little hives of activity all over the Barossa as our stallholders pick, wash, bundle, bake and create their produce ready for the mad four hours on a Saturday morning when half the valley filters through the Vintners Sheds. What our shoppers see for the most part is the finished article. All of the hard work is already done back on the farm or in the kitchen earlier that week (and in the months previous because, let’s face it, it takes a heck of a lot of hard work to grow even one tomato).

That’s why we were so delighted to see this little video made by the extraordinarily talented Denis Smith – it shows the love and care and attention that goes into our stallholder’s food before it reaches the trestle. It features Damien and Cherie of Scullery Made Tea baking their beautiful sourdough bread and is just so beautifully tactile and evocative.

If you have a few minutes to loose yourself in the process of making real food then it’s a perfect little vignette to watch with a mid-afternoon cup of tea.
